Vijender Singh Beniwal, also known as Vijender Singh, is a professional boxer from India. Her was an amateur boxer from Haryana and completed his education from Kaluwas in Bhiwani District located in Haryana. Vijender honed his boxing skills at the Bhiwani Boxing Club under the guidance of Indian Boxing Coach Gurbaksh Singh Sandhu. Vijender has won many accolades at national and international level.
The highlight of his career came when he won a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. This was the first ever Olympic medal won by an Indian boxer. Vijender has also won the bronze medal at the 2006 Asian Games held in Doha. He won the medal after losing the semifinals to Kazakhstan’s Bakhtiyar Artayev. In 2009, Vijender Singh was ranked the top boxer in the middleweight category by the International Boxiing Association.
Vijender was also conferred with the highest sporting honor in India – the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award and the fourth highest civilian award in India – the Padma Shri. Vijender recently quit his amateur boxing career and became a professional boxer in 2015. He signed a big agreement with Queensberry Promotions via IOS Sports and Entertainment. This ruled him out of the 2016 Summer Olympics as he is no longer an amateur boxer. On 16th July he created history by winning his first WBO Asia Pacific Super Middleweight title beating Kerry Hope.
