Music News LIVE: Sgt. Pepper turns 50 today. Is it the best album ever?

Melbourne Express: Thursday, June 1,2017

One lane is closed on the West Gate Bridge inbound after a crash between a car and a motorbike.

Emergency crews are on site but delays are building all the way back to the Princes Freeway and the Ring Road.

The motorcyclist is being assessed by paramedics and does not appear to have suffered any serious injuries.

Police have charged a man following an alleged assault in Box Hill Hospital on Tuesday night, which has left a surgeon with life-threatening injuries.

Whitehorse Crime Investigation Unit detectives charged a 22-year-old Mill Park man with intentionally causing serious injury.

He will likely front the Melbourne Magistrates Court later today.

Heart and lung surgeon Patrick Pritzwald-Stegmann remains in a critical condition at The Alfred.

Have you solved today’s brainteaser? Artist Jamie Brown has done a great job with the graphic, as always.

It’s a much easier one than last week’s, fortunately. Here’s a hint: It may not be fair to say this but did he park in the lane before he collected $200.

As always, send me an email or a tweet (@CraigDButt) if you know the answer. I’ve also posted the brainteaser on my Facebook page, where a commenter has already solved the answer.

I’ll post the answer at 9am.

Malaysia Airlines has issued the following statement on the flight that was diverted back to Melbourne:

“MH128, which had departed Melbourne Airport at 11.11 pm and was scheduled to arrive Kuala Lumpur at 5.28am on 1 June, made a turn back to Melbourne after the operating Captain was alerted by a cabin crew member of a passenger attempting to enter the cockpit,” the statement reads.

“Malaysia Airlines would like to stress that at no point was the aircraft ‘hijacked’. MH128 safely landed in Melbourne airport at 11.41pm.”

“Following the incident on MH128, the disruptive passenger has been apprehended by airport security. Malaysia Airlines together with the Australian authorities will be investigating the incident.”

“Safety and security are of utmost priority to Malaysia Airlines. The airline wishes to apologise for the inconvenience caused. Passengers have safely disembarked the aircraft and will be screened by Australian authorities.”

“Affected passengers will be accommodated at hotels. They will be offered travel on the next available flight or on other carriers.

The press conference with Victoria Police superintendent Tony Langdon on the diverted Malaysia airlines flight is underway at Melbourne Airport.

A man from Dandenong allegedly approached the cockpit and threatened to blow up the plane while carrying an unidentified black object.

He said the man seemed to be suffering from a mental illness and had been acting alone.

Responding to a question from a reporter as to why the man had been allowed on the flight in the first place, Superintendent Langdon said “when police did enter the aircraft we quickly ascertained it was not a dangerous device”. He said the man had a device with him that one would “carry around on a regular basis”.

(Malaysia’s deputy transport minister has said the man had been carrying a mobile charging device).

“We want people going on their holidays to feel safe so you might see an increased police presence at the airport over the next 48 hours,” he said. The Federal Police will also have a heightened presence at the airport
