Anil Baijal who was a Former Union home secretary is currently appointed as the New Delhi Lt. Governor.  The post of the Lt. Governor became suddenly vacant because of the resignation of Najeeb Jung. HE resigned on 22nd December and served as the governor for almost three and a half years. He resigned due to the bitter confrontation with the AAP government. The President accepted his resignation and now the President appoints Anil Baijal and he will serve as the 21st Governor of the National Capital.

Anil Baijal was a former IAS Officer from the batch of 1969. He has also served as the Union Home Secretary under the leadership of Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He also held a key position in different ministries. Anil Baijal served as the home secretary and retired in the year 2006. He was also the former vice chairman of the Delhi Development Authority. He was also a part with the designing and the roll out of the rupees 60,000 Crore Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, which was launched by the government of Manmohan Singh. He was also the executive council of the Think-Tank Vivekananda International Foundation. A lot of members of this group have been appointed to the senior positions by the Modi Government, which also includes the National Security Advisor Mr. Ajit Doval. Earlier Baijal was supposed to serve as the governor of Jammu and Kashmir but due to the unrest in the place, the decision was changed. Anil Baijal will now serve as the Lt. Governor of Delhi.
