Hero Karizma : Still Standing its Ground

The reliable and swift Hero Karizma still rules the roost in an increasingly competitive market. There is no doubt that Karizma in its heydays ruled the bike market, thanks to its advanced technology and a solid reliable engine. Designed ahead of its time, it caught the eye of the discerning customers in no time. However, the current offering leaves much to be desired and its poor sales are a testimony to it.

The Look:

It is surprising that changing times did not inspire Hero to move with the times and they landed with the same hackneyed design of the 80s in the new Karizma Version 2.0. The lean body fails to attract and so does its semi fairing. In its case, leaner did not translate into meaner and it comes a distant second to its much macho looking Karizma R Version 1.0 and ZMR Version 1.0 that have a tough looking design with wider body profile and a symmetrical body fairing.

The Console:

The instrument console has a simple analogue speedometer and an analogue tachometer. The numberings inside the console in yellow, brought forward from its older sibling, appear totally out-dated in the era of digital speedometers with impressive backlit dials. However, a digital console in the form of fuel indicator, odometer and trip meter is present.

The Performance:

The positive point in new Karizma is its engine, which though same as both R and ZMR models, has more power. The 223cc engine produces 19.2 BHP, an improvement on the previous output of 17 BHP and 17.6 BHP for the R and ZMR respectively. The increased power can been felt while driving the new version and the ride feels better than that of many competitors in the bike segment. The gearbox is the same 5-speed manual unit as in its older siblings.

The Ride:

An ergonomically designed seat enables both the rider and the pillion to sit comfortably while riding. The 2.0 version now has a split seat for enhanced styling and comfort. The best part of Karizma is its cruising at mid-range speeds, while an effective suspension system makes for a comfy ride.

The Consumption:

The bike is economical and gives around 36 kmpl in the city and more on highways. This makes the bike perfect for city commuting.

The Safety:

The braking system comprises a single front disc and 130 mm drum brake for the rear. Although, ZMR series had the double disc braking system from the very beginning, there is no option for ABS in any version.

Hero Karizma

The Colours:

Karizma comes in Power Black, Ebony Grey, Sports Red, Daring Yellow and Spotlight White.

The Cost:

The bike with disc brakes and electric start is priced at Rs. 82,379

The Verdict:

Even though looks-wise Karizma appears outdated, it still packs a punch. This is because of its improved engine that imparts more power to the bike. Bike buyers will do well not to miss out on having a look at Karizma, while browsing the motorcycle market. If you are looking for an extremely superb looking bike with futuristic technology embedded in it, then this bike is for you. It has superb of everything like performance and great power. Hero Karizma has remained a major flagship bike of the Hero for years. Be it power, looks or performance, Karizma has everything in it. You do not need an alternative. You just need a Hero Karizma. It has everything. Follow your heart and go for it. Buy this bike with confidence. You will never regret your decision.
