Hero Hunk: Handsome Hunk Hits the Road!

Hero Hunk has become the toast of the town, the day it set its wheels on the road.

Mmmmmm! This handsome hunk will get the females swooning. Hero Hunk is a bike that defines masculinity without pinching the pocket. Although slotted below Hero’s Xtreme Sports model, the Hunk comes with some great additional features. Its new 4-stroke, air-cooled, mono cylinder, 149.2 cc engine is capable of developing maximum power of 15.6 Bhp at a rate of 8500 rpm and maximum torque of 13.50 Nm. The bike comes in two variants, kick-start and self-start.

The Look:

The Hero Hunk designers certainly did a great job in giving it a macho image, what with its eye-catching ‘muscles’ proudly displayed on its fuel tank in the form of tank extensions, re-designed tinted visor, and its sharply defined cowl and headlight. Add to these a striking uplifted and sharper front mudguard, black silencer, alloy wheels, grab rail, new white LED tail lamp with clear lens indicators, stepped-up seat and you have a bike to die for!

The Console:

Hunk’s instrument console is biker’s delight! Not only does the backlit orange console, framed in chrome, appears oh-so-groovy, the digital speedometer and odometer with large digits are something to brag about! In addition, it also has an analogue tachometer and an analogue fuel gauge. Other indicators are located on the chrome frame. The latest addition to 2016 model is a side stand indicator.

The Performance:

Having the same engine as that of Xtreme Sports is a huge plus. The five-speed manual gearbox with one gear down and four gears up-shift pattern, well-matched gear ratios, smooth gear transitions and instant throttle response add to the charm of driving. The bike performs best between 3000-7000rpm and is able to keep vibrations under leash. With its ability to go past 115km/hr, it gives serious competition to Pulsar 150.

The Ride:

In two words – very comfortable. Its rear set foot-pegs give an ideal riding posture and its ergonomically placed handle bar provides a nice hold. The well cushioned seat is easy on rider’s rear and is most suited for long drives. The wheelbase of 1325mm provides extra stability to the bike, especially while cutting corners.

The Consumption:

Everything hinges on this critical consideration… “Kitna deti hai?” Since Hero Hunk is lighter than Xtreme Sports, it has slightly better fuel efficiency. The city run gives 45 to 53 kmpl; for long stretches, anything above 55 kmpl.

The Safety:

A superior suspension system comprising Nitrox GRS at the back and telescopic forks at its front ensures a smooth ride even in the worst road conditions. The bike has standard front disc brake of 240mm and rear drum brake of 130mm. However, Hero is also offering an optional rear disc brake of 220mm in its 2016 model.

The Colours:

Six alluring shades to choose from – Force Silver, Ebony Grey, Blazing Red, Matte Black, Bold Brown and Panther Black.

The Cost:

The Hunk with Rear Drum Brake is priced at Rs. 77,677 and the one with Rear Disc Brake, Rs. 80,957.

The Negatives:

A wider rear tyre could have given it more speed and stability. A kill switch also would have been ideal. There is almost no storage space apart from a bag hook at the back.

The Verdict:

At this price, the bike is really a steal, as the positives far outweigh the negatives. If you want a stylish bike with features of an economical one, then Hero Hunk steals the show. It has everything which an intelligent Indian Bike rider wants from his or her bike. Go for it.
