Harjeet Singh, the Indian Hockey player who will now lead the team of 18 members for the Junior World Cup, which will be held in Lucknow from December 8th to 18th. He hails from Punjab and is very professional. He is the midfielder player representing the team as the captain. He is also the youngest member of the Delhi Waveriders. Harjeet belongs to the lower middle-class family, where his father is a truck driver and he takes up any work to fulfill the needs of his family. His siblings are all into playing hockey. His family initially did not encourage him, and asked him to quit, due to the family issues but his passion made him what he is today and his family started supporting him and the first gesture they showed for their support was to buy a hockey kit for him, for which they had to borrow money.

Harjeet Singh started his career when he was just 17 years old and he started playing hockey in the year 2004 at the Kurali’sGopal Hockey Academy before he joined the Surjeet Hockey Academy in Jalandhar in the year 2008. He immediately joined Punjab Junior Hockey Team, and the team won the Junior National Title in the year 2012 and 2013. Harjeet made his debut in the junior national level team in the same year, that is, 2012. In the year 2013, Harjeet became one of the best players in the team. He also won the title of the most promising player of the Sultan of Johar Cup, Junior Hockey tournament. In 2014, he became the man of the tournament where his team that is the Punjab team won by 6-2 against Odisha in the final match. He became the captain of the Junior Indian Hockey team in the year 2015. Harjeet was also named as the upcoming player of the year at the Hockey India annual awards ceremony. He won a reward for ten lakhs rupees on 26th March 2016. Harjeet Singh was also the part of the Senior Men’s Hockey team, which won the silver medal at the FIH Championship, which was held in London where Harjeet replaced ace midfielder Sardar Singh. He is a great leader and he loves his team a lot. Everyone in his team respects him for his ability and dedication.
