Gagandeep Bakshi was born in a Punjabi family. He is the younger brother of Raman Bakshi; who was first martyr in the year of 1965G.D, during the India- Pakistan War at the young age of 23 years. He graduated from school in1966 and then he joined the National Defence Academy in 1967. He was the commander of Romeo Force during Intensive counter- terrorist operations which is in the Rajouri- Punch Districts of Jammu and Kashmir. Bakshi is a retired Indian army and appointed to Jammu and Kashmir Rifles.
He started his military career by doing MSC in the Defence Service Staff College. He worked as a teacher in the Colonel for three years and then he learned an M.Phil, in the subject of strategic studies. Before retirement, he taught two and a half years at the National Defence College, New Delhi. He got PhD for his work in limited war in the Indian Subcontinent from the National Defence College. His career was from the Air force Cadet, when Bakshi switched to Army for serving unit. Major G.D. Bakshi is a regular on Prime Time Debates on Indian Television. Bakshi is an adored panellist. He also gave speeches on National Security and History of Indian Army. He also mentioned peace with Pakistan; it would cost to India and gave the precious advice of external vigilance. It should be from India side to maintain peace. He is now working towards a PH. D, in the subject of Limited Wars in South Asia, from Madras University.
